Our beginners' course gets you operating a drone confidently for the first time, and our PfCO course enables you to apply for a licence to operate your drone commercially. Find out more below.

Owning and Operating a Drone

If you're new to flying and don't know which drone to buy, how to operate it, or where you can fly it, this one-day beginners' course will answer all of your questions and get you in the air.

Course Contents

Drone Types and Flight Principles: Explore the pros and cons of the different types of consumer drone available and gain a solid grounding in the flight control principles needed to fly confidently and safely.

Regulations: Learn how to apply for CAA approval relevant to your needs. (N.B. The one-day course does not enable you to apply for a PfCO licence. If you are interested in applying for a PfCO licence, please see the course below.)

Simulated Practice: Familiarise yourself with the transmitter controls using simulated practice exercises, explore GPS navigation technology, and understand checklists and flight procedures.

Real Flight: Apply your new skills and knowledge to real drone flight and further develop your flying ability. Our experienced aerospace professionals will support you every step of the way with useful hints and tips.

Commercial Operation of Drones

Gain the skills, knowledge and guidance needed to apply for your Permission for Commercial Operations (PfCO) from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Course Contents

1. Online Theory module. Learn the eight key subject areas that the CAA requires competence in before being granted a PfCO.

2. Classroom Theory Exam. Explore relevant subject areas in more depth with our experienced flight instructor before taking the CAA-approved theory exam.

3. Flight Assessment and PfCO Application. The practical flight assessment will test your flight skills and safe operational ability. You will also be provided with support in applying for your PfCO licence.
