AutoCAD: Beginners (2D)

Learn to utilise the software commands of AutoCAD in order to produce scaled two-dimensional drawings.

During this course, you will:

  • gain basic knowledge of 2D AutoCAD software and how to make practical use of the package in the workplace;
  • learn to generate drawings for the design, construction and manufacturing industries;
  • produce detailed plans and elevations;
  • learn to scale, save and print work;
  • understand how elevations relate to plans;
  • understand how the use of CAD differs from manal drafting.

You will undertake a project-based assignment focusing on the production of plans and elevations using AutoCAD.

Software and OS Requirements:

  • Software used: AutoCAD 2016
  • Operating System needed: Windows 7, 8, or 10

AutoCAD: Intermediate (2D)

Learn the skills required for the practical application of AutoCAD in two dimensions at an intermediate level.

During this course, you will:

  • utilise the softward commands of AutoCAD to an intermediate standard;
  • generate drawing suitable for the construction and manufacturing industries;
  • learn about polylines, solids, blocks and attributes;
  • understand the use of viewports to produce scaled drawings;
  • create logos and scaled drawings on reusable borders as templates.

You will undertake a project-based assignment focusing on the production of a drawing.

Software and OS Requirements:

  • Software used: AutoCAD 2016
  • Operating System needed: Windows 7, 8, or 10

AutoCAD: Advanced (2D)

Learn to create completed Plans and Elevations ready for planning and a final drawing incorporating all relevant standard details.

During this course, you will:

  • gain advanced knowledge of AutoCAD in two and three dimensions;
  • generate drawings suitable for the construction and manufacturing industries;
  • learn how to use the Drawing and Modify Commands;
  • learn how to set up the Model Space and Paper Space;
  • incorporate all relevant ISO Standard details.

You will undertake a project-based assignment focusing on the production of a drawing based on a specific AutoCAD design.

Software and OS Requirements:

  • Software used: AutoCAD 2016
  • Operating System needed: Windows 7, 8, or 10

3D CAD

Learn 3D software building using ArchiCAD or Revit to build a portfolio of building models and drawings in 3D.

During this course, you will:

  • develop the skills required to use 3D CAD for generating drawings suitable for the design, construction and manufacturing industries;
  • produce A1 drawings of an existing building;
  • create 3D plans and elevations;
  • understand the use of different commands within your chosen software package;
  • learn to draw, scale, save and print your work;
  • understand 3D BIM using ArchiCAD or Revit;
  • build a portfolio of building notes and drawings in 3D that demonstrate 3D VBIM skills.

You will undertake a project-based assignment that will typically focus on the production of a 3D drawing.

Software and OS Requirements:

  • Software used: Revit 2016
  • Operating System needed: Windows 7, 8, or 10

Students who successfully complete all four modules will be eligible to apply for a Foundation Certificate in Professional Studies (CAD).
